Education in Romania is compulsory until the age of 16. The Romanian school year is typically split into summer and winter semesters. The first semester begins in September and lasts until February, and the second semester is from February to June.

If you’re moving to Romania with your children it’s good to know that the number of private schools in Romania has increased. Private education is available from kindergarten level to high school and doesn’t usually follow the national curriculum.
