Schools & Kindergartens

Education in Romania is compulsory until the age of 16. The Romanian school year is typically split into summer and winter semesters. The first semester begins in September and lasts until February, and the second semester is from February to June.

If you’re moving to Romania with your children it’s good to know that the number of private schools in Romania has increased. Private education is available from kindergarten level to high school and doesn’t usually follow the national curriculum.

International schools are the most popular choice if you’re an expat in Romania. All these schools are situated in Bucharest and although there isn’t an extensive selection, there are a few to choose from (American, British, Deutsche, French or Greek). They all offer an affordable and quality education.

Also, they offer the International Baccalaureate program, the British GCSE or GCE programs, or a combination of these. International students (foreign students) get their higher education in universities, academies and institutes which are accredited and have a special license to teach foreign students.
